Become an ICT Industry Mentor

10/18/07

Are you interested in inspiring young people to start their futures in the exciting ICT industry and to make technology their career of choice? Become a mentor organisation and guide young IT professionals of tomorrow!

The Victorian Information Technology Teachers Association (VITTA) is currently working with Multimedia Victoria (MMV), the Australian Computer Society (ACS) and other ICT groups to develop the future of ICT in Australia and abroad.

We are committed to encouraging young people to study and work in ICT by giving them an opportunity to work in the ICT industry.

And I invite you to participate in the 2008 ICT Achievers program as an ICT industry mentor. By being a mentor on this exciting program you also have the chance to promote your organisation through the ICT Achievers website.

The ICT Achievers program:

20 enthusiastic ICT minded Year 11 students will have the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals to draw upon their experience and knowledge and gain insight into the diversity of ICT careers.

The program provides a more rewarding experience than traditional work experience due to the students' higher ICT skill set and the active involvement of mentors.

The ICT Achievers work experience placement will take place between February and November 2008.

Your commitment:

Placements are for 15 consecutive working days and involve giving the student valuable and challenging tasks within their ICT capabilities.

Follow up mentor commitments will include:

  • attendance at an ICT Achiever information session held in February 2008;
  • the completion of a program evaluation webform;
  • an interview with VITTA about your comments and suggestions on the project; and
  • attendance at an ICT Achiever award ceremony in November 2008 where recipients will be awarded honorariums and mentors will be officially recognised.

No financial commitment:

No financial commitment is required to participate just your time, knowledge and expertise. VITTA and its sponsors will cover associated WorkCover and honorarium costs.

If you are interested in shaping the ICT workforce of tomorrow download the organisation details form and fax, post or email your form in by 31th October 2007.
