PURPOSE
VITTA is committed to building community awareness of the important role ICT plays in today's constantly evolving world. The ICT Achievers Program inspires young people to see ICT as the key to fulfilling their career aspirations, rewards excellence and creates short term goals for success for those students approaching their senior secondary years.
THE PROCESS
Twenty successful Year 11 students will be placed with individually appropriate industry professionals in a mentoring relationship. Each student will be required to:
- Work a total of fifteen working days with an organisation, to be taken up during school holidays during 2009 (unless otherwise agreed with VITTA and organisation)
- Provide contributions to the ICT Achievers knowledge bank in the form of a multimedia resource (e.g. vodcast) and contribute daily to their personal ICT Achievers blog.
By participating in ICT Achievers, students will be delivered valuable hands-on experience whilst supervised by industry professionals. This program is richer than traditional work experience due to active involvement of industry professionals as mentors for the students who take part. In 2009, the program extends beyond individual benefit by focusing on knowledge creation and sharing. Each student will create a multimedia resource and a blog of their experiences which will build a digital bank of resources and case studies on ICT careers options for other students to enjoy.
Upon completion of their placement, students will attend an awards ceremony where they will have the unique opportunity to network with other industry professionals, education representatives and fellow ICT Achievers in order to share their experiences and feelings about the program. Each student will receive a certificate of excellence and an honorarium for their participation.
PLEASE NOTE: The program is only open to students currently studying Year 11 in VIC (or studying Year 11 IT in Year 10)
